record store day: 2012.

April 24, 2012

Nancy and I hit up some places for Record Store Day today. First, we stopped at The Exchange right off of the Brown/Red Line. We just walked in, took a peek around, saw some Record Store Day releases and then kind of walked out. They didn’t have what Nancy wanted. Next, we went downtown to Reckless Records in the Loop. I assumed they’d be out of a lot of stuff and that there would probably be a line to get in. I was correct about both. There was a line, although it quickly shrank and they were out of everything we wanted except the Metallica release. I bought myself one even though Nancy didn’t get anything she wanted. We wandered back outside and I started calling some places to try to find the record that she wanted and we eventually made our way back north.

copious amounts of bearditude.

Up above is 3 Inches of Blood and they are awesome. Seriously, how can you not get excited about a band that has that much beard amongst them. They could probably blanket a few homeless people with all that hair.

They have a new album coming out on March 27th titled “Long Live Heavy Metal” and if it’s similar to anything they’ve done in the past then I’m sure I will dig it. I always get excited when I see things like “fans can expect a blast of pure metal assured to leave no face unmelted.” in a press release. I mean, how can that not pump you up? I don’t know… maybe you live in a little pop-music box or something. Maybe you are scared of big, Canadian metal-monster freaks playing searing guitar riffs and screaming like a Rob Halford-possessed banshee. I, personally, love the stuff. I love it so much that I had to stop working at this very moment so I could write this blog post.

Get with the program and purchase the album when it comes out next month, courtesy of Century Media Records.

Cleveland OHIO-based Chimaira are coming out this year with a new album. The album will undoubtedly be heavy as hell and it better feature some bitchin’ solos (something lacking from their last effort). Anyway, we finally got some internet hooked up today and this gem was waiting for me in my Google Reader. They released a video for the song “Year of the Snake” and it’s pretty cool. While not the most engaging video I’ve ever seen it is shot in some fun ways and has some cool moments.

I posted a bit of an early version of this CD the other day. I’ve been thinking about it and looking at it, trying to figure out a way to make it a bit better. I think I’ve come up with a good solution here. The extra elements add some depth, balance it a bit better and give it some much needed contrast. Dig it.

Check edwardblankenship.com for photos of it with the case.

Decided to show y’all what the Gerald Thome CD’s would look like if we had the cash to print them out. Sweetness for sure.

letting the bird out of the cage.

To celebrate the impending completion of the Gerald Thome albums, I decided to put two songs together (one from each album) for you all to download and enjoy. Good stuff here. I kept the bitrate somewhat low (192kbs) for file size reasons. Still sounds good. Click the image above to take you to the download spot. If you are interested in hearing more then get in touch with me. I can make it happen for ya. Enjoy.
